Fun with domain names

5uper hotWe all know how important domain names are. A good domain name can help you reach the front page of google. If a good combination of keywords are in your domain, you don’t have to do much to gain search visibility. A good domain name can be branded. It can even get direct hits without doing anything to the site.

When your shopping for a domain, there are three options. You can pick up a premium domain, buy a new domain, or pick up a dropped domain. Out of the three, picking up the dropped domain is best. If you do some digging, you will come across some super bargain. Anyway, i don’t want to get into this right now cause i’m still learning the rules of domaining. I often browse domain related blogs and sites to see whats going on. I try not to pick up too many, but sometimes i just can’t help myself. I guess that’s why i ended up with over 100 domain names.

Anyway, this post is about having fun with domain names. Domains can be pretty cool. You can be creative. On the internet, straight dot comes are prefered, but don’t don’t underestimate the power of a creative domain name. Think del.icio.us

I remember the good old days. Remember when pagers were the shit. I got my first pager when i was a freshman in high school. I thought i was so cool. (and i was…duh…i had a pager) I had a motorola see through coke color beauty. I would get pages from friends and chicks. There’s a point here. Remember the pager codes? Where you used numbers instead of letters. Back in the day, people didn’t have iphones or blackberries. We didn’t even have regular cell phones for text messages. So we had to get creative. Remember? Remember 177 1 55 (miss) 17 01737 1 (i love u-upside down)

Anyway, i spotted some cool and funny domains that reminded me of those times. Bare in mind that if these domains had the letter instead of the number, they would be very valuable. There were a lot, but i’ll only list some cool ones here. They are all available. I picked up a couple myself. If you want, i’m sure you can pick these up. These domains were dropped recently, so they have been aged somewhat.

Nice idea if you were going after some sort of website. I don’t know how good that would be for a blog as it would throw many repeat visitors off.

jared- i think a lot of blog traffic comes from referrals. So, if google is sending you traffic, the readers won’t need to directly punch in the domain. I honestly think those are brandable domains.

jo mark- yeah, start buying up dropped domains. the older the domain, the most potential it has in the long run.
