I recently signed up two private advertisers. It didn’t take a lot of effort. Just a few emails and price negotiations. When you appoach someone about your private ad space, you should have all of your site information handy. In your pitch email, you should include all of your statistical data. You should talk about your reach amongst your blogging peers.
I think a lot of bloggers think that private ad space should be sold to other bloggers. I think this is a common newbie mistake. Ad space on blogs should be sold to business types. When i first started thinking about private ad sales, i looked at the big money bloggers. I looked at the advertisers on these “make money online” blogs. I started emailing these advertisers and to my surprise, some of them agreed to advertise on my blog.
You can try to sell your private ads on web forums. The only problem is that your thread will get lost in the shuffle. Also, your ad request is not very direct. You should take on a more direct approach. Hit up advertisers who already advertise on other blogs. Whenever you visit a blog, check out the websites that advertise on that blog. Find the contact info of these advertisers, and shoot them an emails. This saves you time and increases your success rate. These guys are already advertising on other blogs. These guys have an ad budget. They want to advertise on your blog. You just need to convince them of that fact.
