Johnny Depp Movies
I mentioned before that i’m a huge movie buff. One of my favorite actors is Johnny Depp. Here is an actor who isn’t all Hollywood. Depp likes to play the weird guy in his movies and because he chooses weird roles, he wasn’t all that popular. Recently with the Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise, his fame has rocketed but lets examine his older roles.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a remake of the classic of the same name. Depp creates a much better looking version of the candy factory owner then Gene Wilder. This role was reminiscent of his Edward Scissorhands role as society’s outcast. Tim Burton directed Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The two collaborated many times before in such films like, Sleepy Hollow, Edward Scissorhands, and Ed Wood.
Ed Wood my favorite out of the group. That movie gave the supporting actor, Martin Landau an Academy Award. My theory is that if someone wins for supporting actor, the main actor did a great job as well. Ed Wood was classic Depp. The cross dressing scene shows the vulnerabilty of the character as well as Johnny’s deep acting skills.
There is a new movie coming out December 21th called Sweeney Todd. It re teams Tim Burton with Johnny Depp. The film is about a guy who loses everything and forced to take avengence. By the looks of the trailer, it looks like a classic Burton piece that you won’t want to miss. It’s visually stunning and has an All Star cast that included, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, and of course Johnny Depp. You can visit Sweeney Todd on MySpace.
