Know the value of links
It seems like the most important thing for a webmaster is a link. Google measures your site by the links to your site. Alexa and Technorati also ranks your site with backlinks. So, instead of wasting time fiddling with your wordpress theme, you should be building links. You can make your site pretty later. What good is a beautifully designed site, when no one visits? If you want to make money online, you better know the value of links.
Google does not condone this, but a lot of web masters buy and sell links. SEO specialists help you buy and sell links. That’s all they do. So, it makes sense to research up on the value of links.
When i first started out, i couldn’t believe how much johnchow was making. I didn’t understand how it was possible. But, i now understand why he makes so much money. It’s because he has a lot of noobie fans. A lot of other MMO bloggers kiss his arse to get some of his crumbs. This whole economy is supported by the ignorance of noobie bloggers.
Buying a link on johnchow does nothing. Unless you’re selling a clever scam, you won’t make money by buying an ad on his blog. You’ll just be out the 500 or so dollars that he charges. You might get a little boost of traffic, but nothing worthwhile. The link juice is also meaningless cause his site isn’t that authoritative. My conclusion is that most MMO bloggers are stupid. My conclusion is that most bloggers don’t understand how this economy works. Most bloggers don’t have a clue when it comes to blog monetization.
When i surf around the web, i find a lot of gem sites. Sites with high PR and quality content. But, they don’t have that much traffic. A lot of the good sites, don’t get recognized. It’s similar to our top 40 music charts. Britney Spears and Paris Hilton our the Queens of mass media. Our top 40 music charts are filled with bad rap music and bubble gum pop. It’s not about quality, it’s about marketing.
Anyway, before this post turns into a rant, i wanted to dig out some MMO gems. Here are a list of sites that put up quality content.
BlogBadly
MakeMoneyForBeginners
BloggerUnleashed

Get in the habit of linking to sites that are similar to your own. Don’t give out links too often tho. Make sure that you treat your links as valuable commodities. It’s like Tupac used to say, “lady tease me, cause i don’t want it if it’s that easy.” Words to live by. When you are alwasy giving out your links to every Tom Dick and Johnchow, no body will want it. You’ll never be able to sell it. Why buy the cow when you can have the milk for free?
Be sure that you link to your site as well. There is value in your links. Give yourself some link love by linking to some of your older posts. Work your keywords by linking to your homepage with those terms. Also, try to network with other like minded bloggers so that they are aware of the content on your site. Be friendly and helpful, and you’ll start getting links in return. Noob out!

Thanks Noob,
SEO can really be summed up in one word. Backlinks!
Relevant high PR links are prized but any link is better than no link. Your post is dead on.
Thanks for the nod and I hope things are well with you.

never considered the advantages of linking to myself. does that actually do anything?
July 8th, 2008 at 1:18 am
jake- yes it does. For one, google will follow the link. So if you deep link to your older posts, those posts will be good again by google. It also builds link juice to yourself. It’ll help with the search engine and keyword efforts.

I think the whole Internet is failing because there is not a reasonably way by now of recognizing good content and quality. Links, backlinks, SEO… But, where is good content? Is good content rewarded, regardless of backlins or SEO? Obviously not.
Who is getting the rewards? Obviously, the “clever guy”, but not the honest guy, who is writing good content, useful content.
I used to be a romantic of the Internet. I’m not now.
It may seem hard words, but that’s how I think: the whole Internet is failing.
Good work must be rewarded, just in the Internet as everywhere. If not, the whole system suffers, the whole system fails.
