Learn from the animal kingdom

catwoman.jpgThe animal kingdom is a great place to seek out blogging answers. Think of the internet as territories. Bloggers are little rodents when compared to giant e commerce sites, social networking sites, or internet portals. Bloggers that make any money are the lucky rodents that find the left over meat the lions didn’t finish off.

When examining the animal kingdom, we have to talk about the food chain. There can’t be too many animals that are high up in the food chain. It just doesn’t work that way. Bloggers who think that they can become the next problogger need to sniff on some reality. Chow, ron jeremy, and darren hold up top spots in the make money online niche. There’s a couple other make money bloggers who are close to their level. If you wanted to make as money as these guys by blogging, you would have to dethron one of these guys. There isn’t enough room for any more high level make money blogs.

I’m a rational person. I’ve accepted the fact that i’m only gonna make a few bucks with this blog. I’m happy with it, and because of that, i’ve placed a time limit on this blog. I try not to spend more then 45 mins on this blog. Considering the amount of time i invest, i think i’m getting an ok return.

Your time is valuable. If you’re trying to make money online, you have to think about how much your time is worth. If you spend multiple hours every day on your blog, but only make a few quarters, you should start a different type of website. Blogging might not be for you. I know that it’s not just about the money. But if that’s the case, then why are you reading a make money online blog?

Even mickey D’s pays like 8 bucks an hour. In the beginning, you won’t make anything with your blog. But after a few months, if you’re still not making a dime, find a different type of website to monetize. Your time might be better spent on other ventures. It’s fight or flight. 5 months of blogging and you only made 10 bucks? That means you lost the fight. It’s time to take the flight route. Find another niche to blog about, or find another website to start up.

Sorry to break the news, but blogging for cash isn’t for everyone. I know idiots make money, but some idiots are better then others.

Yeah all very well but surely with paid reviews etc it should be possible to make a few dollars a month, and I’ve read that if your site has pagerank you can make even more. Can you give us some ideas of what you’ve tried that works, also, do you have any recommendations for other newbies to read who are making a success of being online?

    grademoney- i didn’t know either. 😉

matt- yeah, you can make a few dollars a month with your blog. I would say that having a goal of $30/day with a good goal for a blog that’s been running for a few months. But, i wanted to let my readers know that, they won’t get rich like the chow. That’s a myth. “dryland’s a myth!”

You are absolutely right making money online is not a walk in the park. But it can be done. As long as my blog continues to pay the bills and entertainment costs etc. I will continue to hang with it.

Now, I need it to pay for my wedding as well so I am in the fight for a little bit longer.

  4. Affiliate Marketing Blog

    Hey Noob,

    Another cool post!

Can you give us an idea of how long we should expect before starting to make ‘something’ with a new blog?

My blog is just over 1 month old and I have not made anything yet – part of the reason is because I decided not to use Adsense and also not to do paid reviews type posts. I am monetizing my blog strictly through affiliate programs and I know this takes longer to get into the search engines and start to appear in the rankings.

So, on an affiliate type blog like mine–how long should I expect to wait before I see some type of revenue?

debo hobo- yup, great attitude. if you don’t mind me asking, how much do you make per month with you blog, if you prefer to be discreet, you can send the info via email. thanks debo

affiliate marketing blog- thanks dude. hmm…people are different. some can achieve blog monetization a lot quicker, but if u ask for my opinion, i’d say give it a few months. that way, your blog will be indexed, ranked, and approved with different programs. this of course assumes that you’ve updated your blog at least once every two or three days.

adsense won’t make much for you. if your blog is reaching for “affiliate marketing” in the serps, adsense won’t help u make money. Ur best bet is to create good content and build on a solid reader base. that way, you can go the private ads route, but this is the hardest way to make money. and ur posts better be super. if you are strict about not doign paid reviews…you gotta work the serps. focus on a few affiliate link, and hit your keywords. use adwords if u want a little boost. affiliate marketing can get pretty tough. it’s really competitive too. You might want to create an ultra specific deal site. I have a buddy who does that and makes pretty good cash.

This is an interesting conversation. I learnt some tips from the post and some more from the comments.

I am supporting the idea of seeing myself as a rodent anyway. (some people saw themselves as grasshopper sometime ago and they ended up dead in the wilderness). Rather, I see myself as a kings baby who is waiting to grow up and ascend the throne.

Whether the big sites likes it or not. The little bloggers have come to stay. It is a matter of time, they will come to recognise us as a force to reckon with 😉

Our being small is not a disadvantage, rather it is an advantage. And I am all set to utilise it.

tony- haha. thanks for your words. the point is, don’t expect a lions share of the make money blog money. but most bloggers can make some nice side cash
