A lot of the popular front page digg posts are top ten lists. These list posts usually get stumbled too. People like to read lists. It probably has to do with the structure of our brain. We all have slight OCD and slight autism. We like our world to be orderly and follow the rank and file. People love the Forbe’s rich list. We love award shows and we want to constantly read all of these different lists that people make.
Even if your blog isn’t that popular, you could write a post that becomes popular. I know a lot of bloggers who have written lists just to get to the front page of digg. Some are MMO bloggers. How can a “make money online” blog land on the front page of digg? The general pubic isn’t interested in MMO stuff. MMO niche is for work at home moms or johnchow clones. But, if you write a list, most anyone can relate. I don’t know the science behind it, but people seem to love lists. Some of my most popular posts have been useless lists. Write lists to make money online. It’s an easy way to write a post on the fly.
