Time for a logo redesign
Many years of your marketing and branding activities should have made your logo the identity of your company. Of course, you like your logo and never want to change it. However what you may not be considering is the fact that with changing time and environment, the design preferences and tastes change too.
Ever think why large organizations update their logos, because they are willing to portray a more contemporary feel. This however doesn’t mean that you should change your logo completely.
In this piece of writing we will discuss why improving small bits of elements in your logo are essential to maintain your legacy and brand identity.
Ask few questions to yourself
Before going for a change, ask yourself few questions, if your answers is no to all or most of the questions below, than the effective logo redesign is the answer.
1. Take a close look at your logo not being as an owner rather being as a customer. What do you feel? Does the design appeal to you?
2. Can the color, font, style and other elements are recognized easily?
3. Is your logo look fresh and modern with contemporary logo design trends?
4. Is your logo successful in portraying a business image to your target audience?
5. Is your logo compatible with all the advertising and marketing mediums?
6. Is you logo unique and doesn’t match with your competitor’s logo?
Why redesign
Redesigning of logo and improving the look sometimes become crucial. There are several reasons which can justify the above mentioned comments:
1. Updating your logo look more eye-catching to viewers. The graphics, images, colors, fonts used in the logo must all reveal the aesthetic element of the design. If the logo you have does not meet the above standard, a logo redesign is highly recommended to earn benefit out of the logo.
2. Colors, fonts, and all the other elements should be located in your logo in such a way that they are easily visible to the viewers. If the fonts are hard to read, or logo is over-crowded with too many colors, it tends to irritate the customer and he won’t be able to recognize your logo when he sees it next time. Whereas, simple and easy to recognized logo will provide the viewer to memorize it at a glance. If your current logo has necessary message buried and irritates the viewer in finding the purpose of your business, then a logo redesign is a turnkey solution to draw attention of the viewers.
3. The style of your logo is another very important factor. There may be many things you wish to put in your logo, but at the same time you must keep in mind that the style should be similar to the characteristic like the type of your business or the kind of your target audience. If the logo you own does not suitably portray your business purpose to the old customers, logo redesign is necessary in order to carry targeted message accurately and efficiently.
4. The logo design trends are constantly changing. New trends like Web 2.0, Waves, and Organic 3D are in the market that make logos look fresher and eye-catching and portray the company’s image as an innovative and modern. Thus, if your logo is not according to the current logo design trends, and doesn’t look fresh and modern, you will not be able to battle with competition. When such things happen, giving your logo a face lift can prove to be enormously successful.
5. Determine how you are going to use your logo on different marketing and advertising mediums like billboards, brochures, letterheads, pens, buttons etc., therefore, logo is meant to be versatile, and its design should bestowed to any use imaginable. But, if your logo is not compatible with all the available mediums, it’s better to consider redesign.
Remember
Getting a logo redesign with slight changes, not only looks appealing to the customers, but also helps in increasing the revenue. Furthermore, changing necessary elements will add the professionalism to your logo, which is the exclusive identity of your business to the millions of viewers.

I think the design should follow the time table. however, the logo should keep their identity for sure. it looks like the google logo is getting skinnier.

I hate change most of the time. I can’t believe how many times though some sites change the page layout. Usually I see more ads.
April 30th, 2009 at 12:08 am
Wouldn’t changing your logo that you are established with be similar to you changing your layout this far into your site? If it’s a bad logo I can see it needing to be fixed but their current logo is pretty clean and simplistic. If you think about Google, what else could they really do other than change letters coloring and the font?
A better example might be something a with more room to redesign. I agree though, a logo says a lot about your site or business and needs to be perfected.

I think company will do logo redesign is there is major changes in the company, want to change the image or something.

Great post, I agree. If the logo is flexible, it should be updated to constantly appeal to the audience. Not drastically updated, but subtly maybe. Google is a great example of this, yeah

I really think Google did a nice job there. Allot of Company’s make drastic changes which almost every time Is a bad way to do it. Google did it gradually here which is nice to see (didn’t notice that before i saw this blog post) And branding is extremely important which is something to remember. Nice share !

I love this article….Its cool how google has changed the logo but has kept the same concept of how it looks…Nice why to keep up with the time and maintain a brand

Re-branding or re-packaging a product or service remains vital to keep any product fresh in the minds of consumers, It’s marketing 101 from the 1950’s and something everyone in business need to do over time.
But as we’ve seen from Google, it doesn’t need to be dramatic to be effective. But then again the world most popular web page is nothing more than a white screen with a box and a logo, doesn’t leave a lot of room to manoeuvre when it comes to refreshing the product!

An established company shouldn’t, but if you’re rather new you’d be best off to simply change it if it needs to be changed.

Just rereading through all of your posts, guest posting seems like a good idea. But it may be good at times to change your logo’s with the recurring fads in the world, I think.

Wow, i never realized that google had changed their logo. Despite the variations, google looks the same.
As renzai said, updating your logo to accomodate the public is always a smart move
August 15th, 2009 at 10:05 pm
I never knew Google changed it’s logo either. It still looks very similar to past ones and kind of dull.
August 16th, 2009 at 10:32 pm
Google definitely has adapted and adjusted their logo to suit more of the modernization going on with the web. The special logos for the holidays are always nice to collect as well.
August 18th, 2009 at 2:03 am
Yeah, Google’s logo has modernized over the years.
August 19th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
I love Googles change of logo with holiday and occasion, it’s very personalized.
August 20th, 2009 at 1:59 am
The Google holiday logos are great. Yahoo!’s are better though.

It’s great information. I do realize that sometimes big corporations redesign so that the marketing is easier and people think that the company is new, and it is revamped. If you take a look at RadioShack, they changed their name to just Shack, and doubled sales. Great blog post.
August 24th, 2009 at 9:05 pm
Great information, I could use this to redesign my own website, thanks!
September 5th, 2009 at 9:22 am

@Tech: You have a very good point. Google really doesn’t need a new logo, what matters is its functionality.
November 10th, 2009 at 10:05 am
The Google logo is good, no need to change it.
November 24th, 2009 at 11:35 pm
No need to change the logo, everyone around the world will remember this logo. Google will stand the test of time.
